The Medemblik Regatta, one of the spring classics on the international calendar of olympic sailing, will be merged with the Open Dutch Sailing Championships. This new, major sailing event will be held for the first time from 2 to 13 June 2021 in Medemblik.
In the first part of the event, involves the olympic classes in which all Dutch participants also compete for the National title. In the following long weekend, non-Olympic classes can compete for their Dutch Championship. This merger makes the Medemblik Regatta the largest multi-day international sailing championship in the Netherlands
Spring classic from June 2-6
The Medemblik Regatta has had a reputation for quality, innovation and exceeding expectation since 1985. Together with the other classics such as the Sofia Cup, Semaine Olympique Hyères and the Kieler Woche, the Medemblik Regatta will once again gain a prominent and protected position on the European calendar for the next five years. As a result, international top sailors can again collect many valuable points for the world rankings from 2021 at the Medemblik Regatta. The Dutch participants are very welcome to sail among these international top riders for their Dutch championship.
Dutch championships from June 10-13
The existing Open Dutch Sailing Championships is a combination of a number of Dutch championships at the same time and location. This event has been held in September to date and will move to spring due to this merger. In this way, the non-Olympic classes can use the existing facilities that were used a week earlier. This way, the sailors can continue to count on a high-quality competition organization and they can also participate in an innovative social program.

Chairman of the Platform Competition Sailing Max Blom sees a healthy future for sailing: ‘The Netherlands has many wonderful sailing events. The fact that we are now organizing the Dutch championships simultaneously is not only an efficiency improvement for the organization, but also an enrichment for the participants of the various Dutch championships. ‘
