Let’s meet Marit Bouwmeester, Laser Radial sailor from the Netherlands. Competing on her home water, the water in Medemblik hardly has any surprises for her. Competing in this Regatta for the past ten years, she knows what to expect. How was her first experience at the Regatta and where aims the golden olympic medallist for this season?
“My first experience at the Regatta wasn’t the best one. I just came out of the Optimist, and with a good breeze it was hard for me to keep up with the other girls in the Laser Radial. So I was sailing at the back of the fleet and the race comité was following me to clean up the marks out of the water at the end of the racing day. That was was a bit embarrassing for me.”
“It’s a shame the Medemblik Regatta isn’t a World Cup event anymore. But it’s still nice to race an event in my own country, and it’s always a well organized event.”
World Championship most important event
“This season the World Championship is the most important event, that’s what we are training for. It’s also the place were the first Olympic tickets can be divided.”
