Magic Marine has a bold ambition. “Our focus is for sailors to think of Magic Marine as their No.1 choice for technical clothing and equipment on the water,” says Carrie Howe, Worldwide Sales and Marketing Manager at the technical sailing company.
More than most, Howe understands what sailors want, and knows how demanding they can be for clothing that provides comfort and protection from the elements. Competing for the USA she won four World Championships in the women’s keelboat class and represented her country at the 2008 Olympic Games in China. These days, however, she’s based in Holland, helping grow the Magic Marine brand.
One of the things that Howe considered to be her strengths as a sailor – an ability to see the big picture and focus only on the details that matter the most – is an asset she is now applying to her role in the corporate world. Founded in Holland in 1989, Magic Marine has since transformed into a major international brand, growing from its roots in catamaran sailing into the youth scene, and more recently into the Olympic arena.
Earlier this year Magic Marine signed a two-year sponsorship and supplier deal with Delta Lloyd Regatta. “We have always been behind the scene providing support to sailors,” says Howe, “but the Delta Lloyd is our first Olympic level regatta that we are supporting, where we are now supplying volunteers and supporting activities around the social program. It’s great to be here on our home waters, representing the sport and supporting the sailors, both Dutch and international.”
