The 34th Medemblik Regatta has been sailed from 22 to 26 May 2018. With 320 teams from 47 nations, it has been a successful event. All races have been sailed and competitions got really close. For most of the classes the podium was not secure until the medal race. This final race was sailed in boundaries, making the races exciting to watch.
It has been a fantastic week for sailors and organization. Joost Brouwer, spokesman of the Medemblik Regatta: “There’s one thing you can’t plan, that’s the weather. We’ve had some difficult wind conditions this week, but the race committees managed to get all races sailed. We’re really happy with the week we’ve had, the sunny conditions maybe made up for the shifty winds.”
Sailors were excited about this 34th edition as well. Zofia Noceti Klepacka (POL), winner RS:X Women: “I really like Holland and Medemblik. Really like to come here, will be back next year, hopefully with some more wind!” The racing in boundaries makes the racing more exciting, according to Laser Radial winner Daphne van der Vaart (NED): “It was quite nerve wracking when you want to tack and there is another competitor below you. But it does make the racing more exciting.”
All partners and crew involved made sure the event was running smooth. We all are looking forward to the next years event! The 35th edition of the Medemblik Regatta will be organized from the 21th to the 25th May 2019.
