Veiligheid staat voorop bij de Delta Lloyd Regatta, waar zo’n 300 boten dit jaar het water opgaan in de diverse olympische – en paralympische klassen. Op het water is de veiligheid en eventuele hulp in handen van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Reddings Maatschappij (KNRM). Als het even kan, wordt er geoefend. Zoals donderdagochtend het geval was. After a day of light and frustrating wind on Wednesday the third day of racing at the Delta Lloyd Regatta is not looking much better. The forecast is for no wind this morning with the prospects of a building wind through the afternoon. The question this morning is whether the wind will arrive in time to allow the busy schedule to be completed. Some forecasts say wind by 12.00, some until not after 14.00. Een van de middelen daarvoor is de Delta Lloyd Optimist on Tour, een campagne waar kinderen in diverse plaatsen in Nederland kennis kunnen maken met de watersport. In Medemblik kunnen ze tijdens de Delta Lloyd Regatta zelf zeilen, kanoën, in een bal over het water lopen en suppen. Patience was the essential ingredient on the second day of the 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Netherlands, which incorporates the 2016 Para Sailing World Championships. Light and tricky winds lasted all day, testing race officials and sailors alike, with most fleets delayed at some point. After a challenging first day in strong winds, the second day of the 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, Wednesday is just the opposite and could prove to be as challenging, but for very different reasons…no wind. The 2016 Delta Lloyd Regatta, incorporating the 2016 Para World Sailing Championships, got off to a cold, windy and bumpy start in Medemblik on Tuesday with the full schedule completed in spite of the adverse conditions. In the morning the Lasers, RS-X Women, 49er and 2.4 mR sailed in the strongest winds of the day, while in the afternoon, the Laser Radial, RS-X Men, 470, Sonar and Skud 18 got in their races. Burgemeester Frank Streng heeft maandagavond de 32ste editie van de Delta Lloyd Regatta officieel geopend. Hij gebruikte de bijeenkomst in het zeilcentrum van de oudste stad van West-Friesland om alle vrijwilligers te roemen. ,,Zonder hen is een dergelijk evenement niet te organiseren”, zei hij over de vele Medemblikkers die hun vrije tijd ter beschikking stellen om de grootste zeilwedstrijd in Nederland te kunnen laten plaatsvinden. ,,Mijn ervaring als burgmeester is dat ze hun werk als vrijwlliiger serieus nemen.”’ Streng is zelf voor de vijfde keer gastheer van het international zeilevenement.
