MEDEMBLIK – The 33rd edition of the Delta Lloyd Regatta has been a great success. The top sailors in Medemblik were all very excited about the international event. ,,The organisation was perfect”, Yannick Lefebvre said after the decisive race in the 49er. The 33rd edition of the Delta Lloyd Regatta was a great success. All kinds of wind conditions for the sailors, sunny days and exciting final races. The winner takes all, and maybe it’s not a big surprise that it’s Dorian van Rijsselberghe (NED) who’s winning: “The new format is maybe a bit unfortunate for the top 3 of this week, but ended up okay for me. The Japanese Manami Doi had to finish in 9th place to secure the gold medal. The tension was on when she was racing in the back of the fleet while her biggest opponent Marit Bouwmeester was leading the fleet. The day began with a podium formed of Germany, Portugal and Belgium. The Portuguese were battling for first place, coming second in both the first and second races. Last year we saw Rutger van Schaardenburg in front of the fleet at the Delta Lloyd Regatta, ready for the Olympic Games in Rio. After Rio, van Schaardenburg retired from Laser sailing.
